No plan for fourth island, says exco man

PENANG Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo has clarified that the state has no plan to develop a ‘fourth island’ near the proposed Penang South Islands (PSI) project as outlined in the Penang Structure Plan 2030.

“There is no plan for any fourth island now. There is no such plan,” he said when questioned by reporters during a press conference at Sinar Bukit Dumbar apartment today.

Jagdeep said the state was only proceeding with four reclamation projects – the PSI, the Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase Two (STP2), the Gurney foreshore reclamation site (commonly known as Gurney Wharf), and the land reclamation project by Rayston Consortium (Butterworth) Sdn Bhd in Butterworth.

“The outline of the fourth island could have probably been taken from a map of an earlier Penang Structure Plan. I will need to check with PLANMalaysia on the matter.

“Similarly, there is also an outline of the proposed Middle Bank reclamation project in the Penang Structure Plan 2030. However, we are not going to proceed with the Middle Bank reclamation project,” he explained.
