THE ‘Wanita Jana Rezeki’ 3.0 is back and this year, the state government via the Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC), is hoping for the participation of 120 women to showcase some 360 different types of food items.

State executive councillor for Non-Islamic Religious Affairs and Social Development Chong Eng said the WJR 3.0 serves as a platform for women from the B40 families to market their products.

“Irrespective of their backgrounds, the sole aim of this programme is to help these women get their products known to the public while allowing them to step out to the real world and be leaders in their respective fields.

“And we are ready to provide them a platform to ensure that no one is left behind.

“We had previously introduced this initiative in 2020, and ever since, we have seen successful individuals that are currently still doing well.

“With the help of PWDC, we hope to continue to assist them through this initiative and many others as well.

“This year, we are also targeting to help single mothers participate in this programme,” Chong Eng said during a brief press conference on WJR 3.0 in Komtar today.

Meanwhile, programme adviser and Sungai Pinang assemblyman, Lim Siew Khim, who was present during the press conference, said after the participants have prepared their items, the first process is to do food tasting.

“This will be the first process before we proceed with the site visit or visiting the qualified participants’ houses and followed by market testing.

“The processes will be carried out with the help of experts from the food industry, and PWDC will be working closely with relevant organisations.

“As YB Chong Eng said earlier, we hope to receive more single mothers this time as we really want to give them a platform to not only shine but to also make an earning for themselves,” Lim said in her speech.

It was learnt that the food tasting will take place in August, while the site visit and market testing are expected to happen in September and October respectively.
