Opposition resorted to racism and extremism during the Balakong by-election, says Guan Eng

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Sept 10 told the media that the Opposition lost in the Balakong by-election because they had resorted to use of racism and religious extremism during the campaign period.

“There are 3 reasons for the percentage of votes for the Opposition candidate from the MCA reduced from 23% to 15%. Firstly, we campaigned with the message for the Balakong voters to say no to religious extremism and racism. Secondly, no cover ups for all scandals and we want such scandals to be disclosed so that we can clean up the mess and save Malaysia from the infamous moniker as a global kleptocracy. And thirdly, we campaigned for the voters’ support for the leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his Cabinet appointment in the new government of Malaysia,” Lim said.

“These are the 3 messages contained in my statement for the Balakong voters (dated Sept 6) which wasn’t published in the English and Chinese press. It’s very rare for the statement by the DAP secretary-general not being published in the (mainstream) media that we are now the government. But statements by the Opposition were all published. Perhaps the mainstream media still thinks the Opposition is the Government and vice versa.

“Anyhow, the people believe in Pakatan Harapan and definitely not certain media still controlled by the Opposition. And like what I said, the people wants Pakatan because we represent all the people, all races and all religious faiths. We do not resort to the politics of extremism and hatred,” he added.
