Steps will be taken to revive PPS in Penang

FINANCE Minister Lim Guan Eng on Sept 10 revealed to the media that steps will be taken to revive the Penang Voluntary Petrol (PPS) which was declared an illegal organisation by the Home Ministry of the previous government.

“I still remember that (Phee) Boon Poh was arrested because of the PPS and (RSN) Rayer was his lawyer at the time. And I was the one who came up with the idea and pushed for it to improve public safety in order to make Penang safer…not only safe but also seen to be safe. That’s the whole intention of the PPS. But because of political games played by BN, it was declared illegal,” Guan Eng said.

“Our members were arrested and we fought the case in court and won. And we have been waiting for the Federal Court decision since then. Rayer and Boon Poh brought up the matter with me and I have asked them to come up with a letter (on the status of the PPS) to be handed over to the Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir so that the PPS can be revived in Penang.

“So, the letter shall be prepared by Boon Poh and signed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow while I will bring up the matter in the Cabinet and to the Prime Minister,” added Guan Eng.

Also present at the press conference were Boon Poh who’s exco for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment, Jelutong MP Rayer and Senator Lim Hui Ying.
