THE journey towards the Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2026 officially began last Sunday as more than 800 runners, representing running clubs from across Penang, gathered for the PBIM Social Run Clinic 2026, the first in a series of community runs organised in the lead-up to this year’s marathon.

Held at the Aspen head office, Macalister Road, the event marked the official kickoff of the Road to PBIM 2026 campaign. Organised by Forward Sports Club in collaboration with Aspen, with the support of the Penang State Exco Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), the initiative brought together runners of all abilities in a celebration of fitness, community and shared excitement leading up to race day.

Participants took part in a social run, practical training sessions and a race preparation clinic, where experienced coaches and pacers shared valuable insights on training principles, pacing, injury prevention and race-day strategies. The event also provided a platform for runners from different clubs to connect, exchange experiences and foster the strong sense of camaraderie that defines Penang’s running community.

The Aspen-Klippa Penang Bridge International Marathon 2026 will take place on Dec 13, with more than 20,000 runners expected to participate from Malaysia and around the world.

State executive councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, Wong Hon Wai, said the overwhelming response reflects the continued growth of running in Penang and the increasing anticipation for Aspen-Klippa PBIM 2026.

“Seeing more than 800 runners from running clubs across Penang come together is truly inspiring. PBIM is more than just a marathon — it has become a platform that encourages healthier lifestyles, strengthens community bonds and further establishes Penang as one of Malaysia’s leading destinations for sports tourism,” he said.

Sharing Aspen’s commitment towards PBIM, Aspen Group managing director Anilarasu Amaranazan highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive sporting environment where everyone has the opportunity to participate and pursue their personal goals.

“This year marks Aspen’s third consecutive year partnering in PBIM, continuing this meaningful journey alongside PETACE, runners and the Penang community. One of the most inspiring aspects of this marathon is its ability to unite people from all walks of life, regardless of age, experience or ability. Today, we are especially delighted to welcome the visually impaired runners joining the social run, further reinforcing the message that running is a journey open to everyone.”

“Today’s Social Run Clinic marks the beginning of the journey towards Aspen-Klippa PBIM 2026. We look forward to welcoming thousands more runners over the coming months as we build towards another memorable edition of Penang’s premier marathon,” he added.
