PCC donates over 60,000 face shields to Penang Hospital

THE Penang Christian Centre (PCC) has assembled volunteers to produce and donate 61,550 face shields to the Penang Hospital.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was deeply moved by the noble initiative, thanked PCC for being kind and compassionate.

“Our frontliners have been working very hard since the beginning of the pandemic last year to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

“The frontliners need the personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect themselves from the coronavirus. The face shield plays an integral part in providing that extra protection for all our healthcare workers.

It is learnt that the face shields are worth RM30,000.

“Any kind of help to ease the burden of our frontliners is very much appreciated,” Chow said during a symbolic mock cheque presentation ceremony at PCC in George Town today.

PCC senior pastor Reverend Isaac Chan said that it took the volunteers three months to produce the face shields (from Jan 21 to March 20).

“We thank the PCC parishioners and members from the other churches.

“We received support from 109 volunteers and they were all guided by five supervisors.

“Thank you for making this initiative a huge success.

“We also thank Penang Hospital pharmacy logistics head of unit Shirley Lim for gathering her members and teaching us how to produce the face shields,” Rev Chan said in his speech.

He said that the Penang Hospital contributed the necessary materials to produce the face shields.

Chow expressed his gratefulness to the Penangites for coming forward and helping one another during this difficult period.

Also present were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit, Penang Hospital deputy director Wong Cheng Yew and its senior assistant director Wong Khar Ming.
