Penang a hub for art scene

PENANG has the potential to be one of the famous art cities in Southeast Asia.

This was revealed by state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin during the ‘Can Can x PICAF’ sharing and discussion session at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee today.

He said the Penang International Container Art Festival 2020 (PICAF 2020), held until May, would be latest attraction to the state’s tourism.

Yeoh speaking during his speech.

“PICAF 2020 is the first festival in Asia featuring urban art on container installations. It is aimed at promoting tourism through art and placemaking five neighbourhoods on island and mainland.

“The five locations are in Prangin Mall, Karpal Singh Drive, Balik Pulau, Butterworth and Batu Kawan.

“It’s one of the highlights under the state’s latest tourism campaign ‘Experience Penang 2020’ that aims to drive visitors for exciting experiences

“This will surely attract all art practitioners to come to Penang,” he said in his speech.

Yeoh said visitors could explore the hidden gems of Penang, adding that PICAF 2020 could take the state’s tourism to a greater height.
