SUSTAINABILITY goes beyond saving the planet; it is also about safeguarding humanity and our collective future.

In saying this, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow added that sustainability encompasses the inclusiveness of all stakeholders.

“There is nothing more relevant right now than the quest for viable climate solutions.

“The term Environmental, Social, Governance (ESG) has given investors a broader perspective in making sound investment decisions. It goes beyond mere profit margins and covers businesses’ profound impact on society and the world.

“In propelling the ESG agenda, it is imperative to foster a multi-stakeholder collaboration and I express my heartfelt appreciation for your presence here today (May 9). It provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on our current progress and the tasks that lie ahead in supporting the ESG,” Chow said in his closing remarks after the roundtable discussion on ESG and sustainability in the supply chain. The discussion was held at E&O Hotel Penang today.

Chow said he has made a commitment to ensure ESG growth in Penang as the Chief Minister.

“The commitment comes with the establishment of the Penang Green Industry Programme, championed by the Penang Green Council (PGC).

“Our goal is to transform Penang into a green manufacturing hub by building platforms and holding partnership programmes with various organisations in the state. We are here to facilitate the green transition of organisations.

“In recent years, we have seen innovative transformations within the supply chain.

“Companies have embraced the concept of a circular economy and implemented reverse supply chain practises which include reclaiming post-consumer materials, recycling them, or repurposing them as new raw materials,” he added.

The roundtable discussion was initiated by PGC and the United Nations Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB).
