IT is time for basketball as the Penang FIBA 3×3 Quest takes place at Queensbay Mall from September 5 to 6, 2026.
Organised by World Hoops Penang since 2018, this year’s tournament features 16 international teams competing in 3×3 basketball.
Present at the event was state Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, who spoke about the importance of the tournament for local players.
“This event is a great opportunity for our local players to compete, gain experience and challenge themselves alongside high-level athletes from different countries and regions,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of giving one’s best, even in defeat.
“Sport is not just about winning. It is about giving your best, fighting until the end and having the determination to come back stronger,” Gooi added.
The opening ceremony also featured a festive drum performance by students from SJK C Jit Sin A and B.
Gooi then proceeded to the stage to cut the ribbon, officially launching the event.
Also present were Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan, Penang Basketball Association chairman Ooi Khoon Yeong, Hunza Group managing director Khor Siang Gin, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Tan Soo Siang, World Hoops director Grace Khor, 3×3 Malaysia national team manager and director of KL Flying Eagles Yeow Jie Xiang, Nibong Tebal Paper Mill general manager Lim Tuck Kwang, Eastin Hotel Penang sales and marketing director Choo Chan Chan, Queensbay Mall Penang centre manager Sylvester Soh, and HPPM general manager Janson Ong.
