Penang govt allocates over RM500,000 annually for Sia Boey Archaeological Park’s maintenance

STATE Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai (PH-Paya Terubong) disclosed that the Penang government has been allocating an annual budget of over RM500,000 to the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) since 2020 for the management and maintenance of the Sia Boey Archaeological Park.

In response to an oral question from Wong Yuee Harng (PH-Pengkalan Kota) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting, Hon Wai stated that the state government has consistently provided RM527,760 per year to PDC for the years 2020, 2021, 2022, and the current year.

Hon Wai further informed that PDC has dedicated a total of RM29,130,341.84 from 2019 for the upgrading, management, and maintenance of the Sia Boey Archaeological Park. The responsibility for managing and maintaining the park has been entrusted to PDC Setia Urus.

Addressing concerns raised by Yuee Harng regarding the lack of public toilets, Hon Wai mentioned that PDC is pursuing a grant application from the Ministry of Economy to fund the construction of public toilets within the park.

This initiative comes in response to numerous requests from visitors and aims to enhance the overall visitor experience at the archaeological site.
