THE Penang government congratulates Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who will be sworn in as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister today.

Istana Negara, in a statement earlier, had announced that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah consented to the appointment of Tambun MP Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister.

The presentation of the instrument of appointment and the swearing-in ceremony will be held at Istana Negara at 5pm today.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang government is ready to cooperate with the Federal Government, which would be led by Anwar, to ensure the state could continue to move forward.

“On behalf of the Penang government, I would like to congratulate Anwar, who will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister today.

“It has been five days since the results of the 15th General Election (GE15).

“We are glad that the wait is finally over and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will carry the baton to lead the country as the 10th Prime Minister through the formation of a unity government.

“We believe that many Malaysians will welcome the news as they believe that Anwar is capable of elevating this country to greater heights and uniting all Malaysians.

“And so do we in the Penang government,” Chow told reporters when questioned during a short break at the State Legislative Assembly today.
