THE Penang government has decided not to adopt the proposed work-from-home (WFH) policy for its civil servants, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He made the announcement after a press conference on land tax matters at his office in Komtar today.
Asked why the policy would not be implemented, Chow explained: “We feel it is not suitable for all tasks and there is no urgent need.”
At the federal level, WFH arrangements are currently being studied to determine whether they could help Malaysians better navigate economic pressures arising from global developments.
The Cabinet has received an initial report from the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Public Service Department director-general on the proposal. However, several aspects require further refinement before it is tabled again at the next National Economic Action Council (NEAC) meeting after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil had said the proposed WFH policy for the public sector would not cover frontline services such as healthcare, education and enforcement.
