Penang may change exco portfolios depending on Cabinet’s move

THE Penang government may consider reshuffling the portfolio of its state executive members if a Cabinet reshuffle takes place.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said they would await the Federal Government’s move before making a decision.

“We’ve never discussed this matter. But in politics, we cannot rule out anything,” Chow said after jointly flagging off the ‘Kimia Heritage Run 100 Years’ with Deputy Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis and Malaysian Chemistry Department director Mohamed Zaini Abdul Rahman at the Esplanade today.

Chow was responding to a question from a reporter who said there were rumours of a reshuffle.

“If there is a Cabinet reshuffle, the state government may think of restructuring the portfolios of the exco members. This is to streamline the exco to make it more efficient so that an agency be put under one exco member instead of having to report to two or three exco members.

“But the question comes as a shock to me because we’ve never done an exco reshuffling in the past 10 years.”

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had indicated a possibility of a change of portfolios in his Cabinet late last month but said there would be no new ministers.
