Penang prioritises education

THE Penang government has been stressing the importance of education.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said educational institutions, which include Chinese and missionary schools, are of paramount importance.

“The state government has been assisting Chinese and missionary schools for the past 14 years.

“We regularly help and allocate funds for these schools. We hope that the Chinese associations will continue to assist the Penang government in handling the affairs of the Chinese schools, and to cultivate talents among the students.

Chow and Chong Eng are present during the launching of the magazine in Komtar.

“Multiculturalism, multi-ethnicity and multi-education are the major features of our country.

“Each of us should play a part in strengthening national unity for a better tomorrow,” Chow said in his speech during the launching of the Chinese and missionary school committee’s magazine and short film (2008-2020) in Komtar today.

The magazine, in Mandarin, showcased the state’s effort in supporting the Chinese and missionary schools in Penang.

The Penang government was said to have allocated some RM115.22 million to assist these schools from 2009 to 2021.

The magazines, which will be distributed to the Chinese schools.

State Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng said the state would distribute 1,000 magazines to the Chinese schools.

“We will also be giving the magazines to the Education Ministry and Prime Miniter Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob,” Chong Eng, who is also the Penang Chinese and Missionary Education Affairs Coordinating Committee chairman, said.

She added that the state had put in much hard work and commitment over the years.
