PENANG has once again cemented its reputation as one of Asia’s leading tourism destinations after securing an impressive 12 accolades at the prestigious Asian Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2025–26.
The awards were presented across 50 categories during a grand ceremony held on May 14 at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, recognising outstanding achievements in the tourism, hospitality and business events industries throughout the region.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai congratulated all award recipients, describing the achievement as a proud milestone that reflects the state’s unwavering commitment to excellence.

“These awards are a strong testament to the quality, creativity and resilience of Penang’s tourism and hospitality industry.
“Each winner represents the hard work and commitment of our industry players in delivering meaningful experiences, excellent service and world-class offerings.
“Penang’s success at the Asian Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2025–26 reinforces our position as one of the region’s most vibrant destinations for tourism and business events,” Wong said during a press conference at Holiday Inn & Suites Penang Prai in Juru today.
Also present were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, Kebun Bunga assemblyman Lee Boon Heng, Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekaran and PCEB director Datuk Khoo Boo Lim.
Wong said the achievements showcased the professionalism, innovation and dedication demonstrated by industry players across the state.
“From tourist attractions and cultural products to hotel services and convention facilities, every award represents years of dedication, continuous improvement and a shared commitment to excellence.
“Each achievement reflects the professionalism and high standards that have become the hallmark of Penang’s tourism and hospitality industry,” he said.
Wong also expressed his gratitude after being honoured with the Outstanding State Tourism Leader Award 2025, describing it as a recognition that carries both honour and responsibility.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this award. This recognition is not only an affirmation of our efforts, but also a responsibility that inspires me to continue advancing Penang’s tourism and creative economy for the benefit of the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ashwin said Penang’s remarkable showing reflects the growing strength and international competitiveness of the state’s tourism, hospitality and business events sectors.

“Penang’s 12 wins are not only a proud moment for the recipients but also for the entire state.
“These recognitions demonstrate that Penang continues to distinguish itself through its outstanding hospitality products, world-class event venues, rich cultural and heritage offerings, and dedicated industry leadership.

“We are proud to continue working closely with our partners to further position Penang as a preferred destination for business events, tourism and meaningful visitor experiences,” he said.
