MORE than 1,000 people are expected to attend the Penang state-level Youth Day celebration at the Batu Kawan Stadium on May 15.

The one-day event is jointly organised by the state government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), and TLM Event Sdn Bhd. It is open to the public, especially the youth.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said the theme of the Youth Day celebration this year is ‘Let’s Celebrate Youth Day 2022 – This Decade is Your Decade’.

“Youth has always been our main focus for development and on May 15 we are excited to engage with them since there will be an exhibition on PYDC’s initiatives and programmes which include economic development, social development, and self-development.

“It has been a very interesting journey by PYDC in developing our youth to showcase their growth and achievement.

“The aim of the exhibition also is to publicise the initiatives and programmes for youth development to the visitors. Among the highlights of the event are a civic awareness campaign on Undi18 and Penang Youth Volunteer initiatives.

“Other activities include singing performances by talented youth in Penang, Zumba dance session, lucky draw and many others.

“Thus, we are looking forward to seeing all of our youth and Penangites together at the event.

“To know more about the Youth Day celebration and activities that will be carried out on that day, please visit our PYDC Facebook page at https://m.facebook.com/pydc.my/ ,” Gwee told a press conference at Batu Kawan Stadium yesterday.

Also present were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and Penang Stadium and Open Spaces Corporation (PSDKLPP) chief executive officer Zul Kahar Khamis.

Soon said Youth Day is celebrated to honour the role of youth in bringing change to the world and attaining long-term development.

“It’s also a chance to raise awareness of the issues and concerns that the world’s youngsters face.

“Hence, we celebrate Youth Day to appreciate youth especially in Penang as we step into a new phase with higher motivation and spirit to succeed in all aspects of life.

“The objective of the Youth Day celebration also is to celebrate youth as valuable assets to the state and country as we educate the public on the role of youth today. There is no doubt that the ideas, imagination, and energy of youth are vital for the continual development of the societies that they live in.

“This celebration also serves as a recognition from the Penang government of our youth’s contributions, commitment, efforts and excellence towards the development of our state all these years,” he said.

Soon added that a 5km fun run would be held at the Batu Kawan Stadium on May 15 in conjunction with the Youth Day celebration.

“The fun run event is open to youth aged 12 to 35 years old and is limited to 1,000 participants only.

“Each participant will also get a T-shirt, finisher’s medal and e-certificate.

“So, don’t miss the chance and register before May 7. For more details, please visit howei.com/event_details/youthrun2022 ,” said Soon.
