PENANG’S vibrant mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage makes the state an ideal destination for couples seeking memorable wedding experiences and pre-wedding photography.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of “The Wedding Affairs” exhibition at the PICCA Convention Centre today, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai highlighted that the state has been actively promoting wedding tourism as part of its strategy to develop new tourism experiences.
“Earlier this year, the ‘Fall for Penang’ campaign showcased the state as a destination for pre-wedding photography, destination weddings, and romantic getaways while highlighting the talents of our local creative and wedding industries,” Wong said.
He also pointed out that Penang boasts unique natural and heritage attractions, including George Town’s Unesco World Heritage Site, the Penang Hill Unesco Biosphere Reserve, verdant greenery, and golden beaches.
What makes Penang particularly attractive for couples, Wong noted, is the close proximity between urban landscapes and nature.
“Within just a few days, couples can capture a diverse collection of pre-wedding photographs in distinctly different settings from the lush, tranquil surroundings of the Botanical Gardens and the beaches of Batu Ferringhi, to the countryside of Seberang Perai and the timeless elegance of George Town,” he added.
Wong commended event organiser TLM Event and participating exhibitors, including local bridal houses, hotels, and wedding-related service providers, for creating a comprehensive platform for couples while supporting the local business ecosystem.
He emphasised that wedding tourism represents an intersection of culture, tourism, and the creative economy, offering broad economic growth opportunities across multiple sectors.
“With greater collaboration and synergy across the industry, we can further develop this ‘wedding economy,’ creating even more exciting opportunities and encouraging more couples to choose Penang as the destination for their love story,” Wong stated.
