Penang’s street food to be promoted in China

PENANG’s famous street food will soon make its presence felt in China with the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with its counterpart to promote the local cuisine in various malls and cities abroad.
The MOU, which was signed by Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer (CEO) Ooi Chok Yan and Shanghai Tianyi Culinary Co. Ltd CEO Ren Hui is to showcase the award-winning street food to consumers in China.

State Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and  Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Shanghai Tianyi Culinary Culture has shown a strong interest in promoting local food.
“Penang is an attractive destination due to our status as the food capital of Malaysia.
“China also presents a huge market potential which the state has been working on to introduce and strengthen our promotional efforts to attract more Chinese nationals here,” he said after witnessing the signing ceremony at Komtar today.

Yeoh pointed out this was a remarkable feat for the state as it was in line with the Penang government’s direction to make tourism flourish in the competitive global tourism market.
“We look forward to seeing the unveiling of  future milestones as we move towards a common goal for the benefit of Penang and Shanghai Tianyi,” he added.
