MALAYSIA’s largest halal-certified kopitiam restaurant, called the OldTown White Coffee, is giving away free meals for the needy under its franchise corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Participating outlets in Penang are in Jelutong on the island and Tesco (Bagan Ajam), Bandar Sunway and Auto City on the mainland.

This initiative is a collaboration with the Malaysia Franchise Association.

The Jelutong branch manager Suhaila Che Gat, 40, said the initiative was aimed at giving something back to the needy due to the current difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are giving out 50 food packets, namely 25 packets of tomyam mee hoon and the remaining are egg sandwiches. Also, we are giving away drinks such as black tea and coffee.

“As part of the CSR programme, we hope that this effort will help the needy, especially those in the B40 group to save their expenses for one of the meals in a day,” she told Buletin Mutiara in an interview.

The CSR programme, which started on Feb 18, will go on until March 3 this year. The food and drinks distribution would begin at 10am every day.
