PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has called on the relevant agencies in the state to utilise the three weeks to prepare for the reopening of the country’s borders.

“The country’s borders are scheduled to reopen on April 1 and they will involve various sectors.

“We have about three weeks to prepare for the reopening of the country’s borders. This period is crucial for preparations to be made.

“The relevant sectors and agencies will have to take this opportunity to refine their processes and procedures before the deadline.

“This is to ensure that arrivals to Penang are smooth, unlike the recent incidents at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) that were below satisfactory,” Chow replied to a journalist today when asked about Penang’s preparation for the reopening of the county’s borders.

Chow said the state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin had worked on several efforts to ensure that the various stakeholders are ready for the reopening.

“Various stakeholders’ engagements, visits to the Penang International Airport (PIA) and refining the standard operating procedures (SOPs) have been held to ensure that the reopening can be implemented smoothly in Penang,” he said.
