Promoting, supporting talent development in Penang

TALENTCORP Malaysia Berhad is engaging with the Penang government to promote the state as one of the employment places in the country.

Its group chief executive officer Thomas Mathew said they have been collaborating with InvestPenang, Penang Skills Development Corporation (PSDC) and other agencies to assist and support talent development in Penang.

“We know that Penang has a huge demand for talents as its economic zone is attractive.

“We assist InvestPenang to promote various programmes, which include MyPenang and My Workplace programme. We also participated in industry dialogue sessions with various stakeholders.

“We facilitate PSDC in upskilling its manufacturing engineers and technicians while playing our role in bridging the northern region and industry players,” he said during a courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Komtar today.

During the 45-minute session, Thomas said TalentCorp plans to organise a Northern Region Diversity Summit / Women Career Convention (WCC) tentatively on July 28 and 29 this year.

“Our objective is to advocate and promote awareness on diversity and inclusion within the northern industries.

“The core committee members are Dell, Intel, Motorola, Micron, Keysight Technologies and Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC),” he said.

In addition, Thomas said TalentCorp has partnered with ViTrox, Micron and Dexcom to implement a pilot project – a childcare centre – in the Batu Kawan industrial area.

“The centre will benefit the employees from the companies within the vicinity. We also provide a grant for companies who wish to open childcare centre facilities,” he added.

Thomas also spoke about the Accreditation of Lactation Room Facilities at Workplace.

“This initiative is led by Making Penang a Breastfeeding Friendly Committee (MPBF) which comprises PWDC, World Alliance Breastfeeding Action (WABA), state Health Department, TalentCorp and JCI Pearl,” he said.

Thomas also pointed out the importance of the Industry-Academia Collaboration (IAC) workshop as it helps to improve the talent supply and demand ecosystem.

In March this year, TalentCorp established a northern region office in Bayan Baru to cater for the region’s robust growth, and to strengthen its presence in the northern region.

Chow expressed his appreciation of TalentCorp’s effort in assisting the state.

“The electrical and electronics (E&E) sector is important to the state and we hope more talents can be brought into the state.

“We hope to see a more positive prospect in the future,” he said.

Also present were TalentCorp’s Graduate, Diaspora & Industry Partnership vice president Nazrul Aziz, Government Engagement & Facilitation and Corporate Secretarial deputy vice president Mas Muhammad Hakim Masika, Industry Partnership & Engagement manager Nor Asmahan and InvestPenang Talent head Hawani Adnan.
