THE Penang government is inviting bidders to submit their proposals to improve the local councils’ parking system.

Penang Local Government, Housing and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the Request For Proposal (RFP) was called on July 12 and would be opened until Aug 13.

“We are looking for a ‘smart parking’ system provider for the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP).

“This is in line with the state’s aspiration to turn Penang into an international and intelligent city.

“Currently, MBPP and the MPSP are using the Electronic Prepaid System and the Coupon System,” he told a press conference in Komtar on July 16.

He said the ‘smart parking’ project would involve two parking categories – the ‘on street parking’ and the ‘open space parking’.

The total number of MBPP parking lots is 12,000 while the MPSP has 24,000 parking lots.
