The birth of Wesley Methodist School Penang (International) – a historical milestone in education for Penang

AFTER an auspicious groundbreaking ceremony in March 2016, the Wesley Methodist School Penang (International) now standing majestically in Sungai Pinang and ready to offer quality education to its students.

 

The school’s Board of Management chairman Datuk Chin Lean Keat said the completion of the school complex showed their commitment to provide quality education in the state.

 

“Our aim is to enable students, teachers and school administrators to embrace education to the fullest.

 

“The school complex has been equipped with high speed internet service – thanks to Telekom Malaysia Berhad.

 

“With this connectivity, it allows students to experience and enhance digital education within the school compound,” he said in his speech during the official opening of the school in Lebuh Sungai Pinang 1 on July 6.

Chin also thanked the Penang government for granting the Methodist Church in Malaysia, a permission to acquire the land that the school was currently situated, back in 2012.

 

The school’s Building Committee Task Force co-chairman Datuk Jerry Chan advised the students to not only do well in exams, but also to develop a sense of compassion, justice and service towards community and nation.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the completion of the school marked a historical milestone in education for Penang.

 

“No one would have expected to see this 10 years ago; but today we can all rejoice to have this beautiful school complex complimenting the landscape in Penang.

 

“This reputable international school is well-positioned to serve Penang and other parts of the northern Peninsula.

 

“The school can attract international students who are looking for quality yet affordable education,” he said.

He added that the school is scheduled to be operating from Sept 3.

 

Chow also witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Telekom Malaysia Berhad and the school.

 

Chow, his wife Tan Lean Kee, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim and Kebun Bunga assemblyman Jason Ong visited the exhibition booths after the ceremony.

 

Colourful balloons were released to mark the end of the event.
