THE Penang government has advised the people to refer to the state Health Department or the Health Ministry (MoH) on statements pertaining to Covid-19.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that updates from the MoH or the state Health Department could be obtained daily.
“The updates are verified. It is best for the public to obtain the information from the MoH or the state Health Department,” he said.
Chow was responding to a question that some business or premises owners were issuing notices informing the public of Covid-19 cases at their premises.
“There are pros and cons to such notice. It can inform the public about cases in a particular locality so that the people are aware. However, such notice is usually not confirmed or verified, and it can create a panic situation,” Chow said.
He said that the MoH and the state Health Department would not reveal the exact premises or location that has Covid-19 cases.
“Even the state government does not receive specific information from the MoH and the state Health Department. We receive the information that is announced,” he added.
