PWCC invites registration for ‘Empowering Women Through Digitilisation’ conference

THE Penang Women Chamber of Commerce (PWCC) will be holding a conference, entitled ‘Empowering Women Through Digitalisation’, at The Ship Campus in Batu Kawan on Sept 8.

Chong Eng, the state executive councillor for Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs, thanked PWCC for organising the full-day conference that would feature successful entrepreneurs to share their journey and experience as well as strategies to combat and stay competitive in the ever-changing digital era.

Chong Eng says sustainability and ability to communicate effectively online are very important.

“The digital revolution has transformed our lives and societies with unprecedented speed and scale, delivering immense opportunities as well as challenges.

“This conference is a full-day event that offers knowledge through various interesting topics and useful tips to support women entrepreneurs in this digital advancing market,” Chong Eng told a press conference in Komtar today to announce the conference.

She added that her office would sponsor RM5,000 in support of the conference, with the hope that more women would embark on their business on a digital platform more confidently.

“This conference is timely since businesses were forced to get creative and shift to digitalisation since the global pandemic.

“With more businesses growing in the market and adapting to a digital presence and gateway, competition is high.

“Sustainability and the ability to communicate effectively online are very important,” she added.

Wong says the conference will be held in a hybrid mode and free of charge.

Organising chairman Dr Wendy Wong said the conference would be held in a hybrid mode, targeting 150 to 200 attendees from various business sectors to attend the physical event and another 150 to 200 attendees to join the live stream event.

The conference will be held from 8.30am to 6pm.

“We believe the conference will definitely complement our state government’s effort to boost the digital economy as we strongly believe that women in the country are very creative, capable of communicating effectively and possess admirable problem-solving skills.

“PWCC is offering the conference free of charge to the public to encourage more entrepreneurs to reap the benefits of digitilisation.

“It is open to both men and women, aged from 15 to 60, 70 or even 80,” Wong said.

She added that speakers from different industry players and government agencies have been lined up for the conference. The topics cover TikTok Marketing Strategies for Business, Women Entrepreneurship in the Digital Era, Company Digital Transformation, Sharing by successful women entrepreneur on their journey to digitalisation and more.

She also thanked The Ship Campus, Digital Penang and Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau for their support.

Tong says to stay ahead, businesses must embrace digitalisation.

PWCC president Tong Bee Yoke said since the formation of PWCC in 2017, they have been organising many networking sessions and talks that have benefited women entrepreneurs.

“We also collaborated with other women organisation to conduct mentoring programmes to help young women entrepreneurs in their business journey.

“Digitalisation has become one of the tools that is essential for business. To stay ahead, businesses must embrace digitalisation and work with forward-thinking vendors that can successfully and securely facilitate digital transformation,” Tong said.

Also present were co-organising chairman Susan Chyntana, who is also the PWCC assistant treasurer, PWCC secretary Judy Ong and committee members Engel Cheoh and Samantha Low.
