PYDC pledges to organise more esports programmes for youths

THE Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) is committed to organise more esports programmes and tournaments to attract participation from youths.

 

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said the esports industry is growing and future in the field is bright.

“So, one of our main focuses now is to develop youths for the esports industry, and to produce more world-class esports talents in Penang.

 

“This industry has a high number of youth and athlete engagements. It is also a multimillion-dollar industry.

 

“So, it is crucial for PYDC to take an active role in the development of esports in Penang.

 

“By participating in more esports programmes and tournaments, it can teach our youths about teamwork, communication, strategy, and sportsmanship,” Dr Gwee said in her speech during the closing ceremony of the Youth Esports Challenge 2021 via Zoom yesterday.

The Youth Esports Challenge 2021 was organised by PYDC, in collaboration with SEGi Group of Colleges, Magnus Games Studios, Realme Malaysia, Ticket2U, OYU Fish Skin and ILLEGEAR Sdn Bhd.

 

Dr Gwee said PYDC is open to any collaboration from the private sector to organise more esports programmes to develop youths for the esports industry in Penang.
