Rep donates reusable face masks to schools

A TOTAL of 1,600 reusable face masks have been given to seven primary schools in Jawi.

Jawi assemblyman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye said the face mask donation was carried out by its service centre to safeguard the pupils from the Covid-19 pandemic during the school reopening in the recovery movement control order (RMCO) period.

“The face masks given are different than normal face masks because they are reusable and made from a ‘copper fabric’ material. This is cost-effective and at the same time the material gives protection against viruses and bacteria.

“Thus, it is a great and comfortable way to protect pupils.

“Apart from washing hands with soap or sanitising our hands regularly, we should know that wearing a face mask is crucial as well to prevent the Covid-19 transmission. Hence, this is why the initiative is carried out,” H’ng said in a statement to Buletin Mutiara.

According to H’ng, the face mask distribution was also aimed at reducing the financial burden of those from underprivileged families.

However, H’ng also shared his disappointment when he was not allowed to enter all of those schools to deliver the items.

“It’s not just the seven primary schools but I have been barred from entering all schools in Jawi.

“I was told that the order came from the Education Ministry (MOE) forbidding any politician or state representative who is not part of the current Federal Government (Perikatan Nasional) to enter the school compounds.

“In the end, I have to pass over all the face masks to the Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) chairman of each school to help me hand over the items.

“This is really unfortunate as I just try to do my part as an elected representative for my constituency,” he said.

H’ng also urged the current Federal Government, led by the Perikatan Nasional, to stop playing politics and set aside the political differences when it involves the people’s interest.
