Repair works on collapsed roof of DHAB building to begin soon

PART of the roof of the Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi (DHAB) building that collapsed on Oct 15 is expected to undergo repair works by next week.

 

Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the repair works would take about four weeks to be completed.

 

“It will begin once we get the approval from the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH).

 

“Meanwhile, the cleaning up process of the collapsed roof had already been done by the contractor on Nov 4 after getting the approval from DOSH.

“All the requirements from DOSH also have already been submitted by the contractor for the repair works’ approval,” Rozali told reporters after visiting the building in Butterworth today.

 

Also present was state DOSH director Jaafar Leman.

 

According to Rozali, the 18-year-old building was upgraded in 2017 and completed on March 14 this year before being handed over to MBSP on July 16.

 

“The upgrade project was managed by Penang Development Corporation (PDC) at a cost of RM4.4 million.

 

“The project is still in defects liability period until March 13 next year,” he added.

 

Rozali said after the incident, MBSP have requested PDC and the main contractor (Syifa Bina Sdn Bhd) to prepare a report within two weeks.
