THE Penang government, through Penang Stadium Corporation and Open Spaces (PSDKLPP), will be calling for a request for proposal (RFP) for its Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool Complex.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the RFP is for the upgrading works, maintenance and management of the facility.

“Actually, the issue about the swimming pool complex in Seberang Jaya has been discussed many times during the state executive council meeting.

“But, the solution regarding this matter has been delayed for the last few years because of a lack of a concrete plan for the upgrading works.

“However, when the state government established PSDKLPP in 2017, we decided to hand over a few assets, including the Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool Complex, to PSDKLPP for them to call for an RFP.

“The handover is important to ensure continuity in terms of the upgrading works, maintenance and management of the facility for the comfort of the people especially the Seberang Jaya residents,” Chow told Buletin Mutiara during his visit to the public swimming pool today.

Also present during Chow’s visit were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud, Penang State Sports Council director Harry Chai Heng Hua and PSDKLPP chief executive officer Mohamed Akbar Mustapha.

Chow said he hoped that when the RFP is called soon, it would attract some potential suitors to tender their proposals to develop the project.

According to Akbar, PSDKLPP has already completed the paperwork which would be submitted to the state Financial Department for the next procedure before the RFP is called.

“The Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool Complex will remain closed until further notice.

“This is to allow the upgrading works to take place after we call for the RFP,” he said.

Apart from the handover of Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool Complex to the PSDKLPP, Akbar said the corporation would receive another two assets, namely Dewan Millenium Kepala Batas and Sony Sports Complex in Seberang Jaya.

“We will officially take over the two assets in July this year.

“And I would like to thank the state government and MBSP for the handover.

“Rest assured, PSDKLPP will do its best to take care of those places in terms of the maintenance and management,” he added.
