AN allocation of RM1 million has been granted for the upgrading of St George’s Girls’ School, says Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit.

He said the amount, which has been granted by the Education Ministry and Public Works Department, was for the refurbishment of the hall and canteen, as well as rewiring the school building.

Lee said the works are expected to commence at the beginning of April and would be completed in a year.

“We need to have a good surrounding for the students,” the first-term assemblyman said at a press conference in the school in Jalan Macalister today.

Also present were Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) committee member Ina Fazira and school’s senior assistant (administrative) Jainuddin Jais.

Last year, the school upgraded the orchestra room, hostel and meeting room, costing a total of RM35,400. The money was provided by Lee from his constituency allocation.

Earlier, Lee reminded the students that education plays a pivotal role for a better future.

“It is a passport for a sustainable future,” he said, adding that education helps one to have a strong personality.

St George’s, an all-girls secondary school in Jalan Macalister, was established in 1885.
