ROAD upgrading and maintenance works at Taman Jawa in Butterworth have been completed, bringing improved safety and accessibility to more than 200 families in the area.
Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng said the project, costing RM340,000 and implemented through the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), began at the end of last year and was completed in February this year.
“The project involved the upgrading of road shoulders and related works along Jalan Kampung Jawa, Lorong Jawa 6 and surrounding areas.
“The pedestrian walkways here serve as a main route for residents, including those from nearby flats. With these upgrades, the area is now safer and more conducive for daily use as well as recreational activities,” he said during a site visit today.
Lim also highlighted a nearby pocket park, describing it as one of the most appealing green spaces in the area.

“Although it is relatively small, it stands out because of its mature trees, which create a very pleasant and calming environment.
“I personally appreciate this park. Despite its size, it offers comfort and greenery, making it a valuable space for the community. Residents are fortunate to have such a well-maintained and serene place within their neighbourhood,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bagan Dalam assemblyman K. Kumaran said several issues raised by residents during a site visit last year had been successfully addressed through the project.
“Among the concerns highlighted were the poor condition of the playground due to exposed tree roots, as well as damaged walkways and unsafe drains.
“We are glad these issues have been resolved. The pedestrian pathway, which connects to nearby residential areas such as Taman Senang and Taman Mewah, is now safer and more comfortable for daily use,” he said.
Kumaran added that the area is frequently used by residents for recreational activities, including jogging and family outings, especially in the mornings and evenings.
He also said further improvements, including the repair of street lighting, had been requested and were expected to be carried out soon.
Kumaran expressed appreciation to MBSP and all parties involved, including councillors and officers, for their commitment in ensuring the successful completion of the upgrading works.

Also present was former Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran.
