A TOTAL of 720 secondary school students in Penang had the opportunity to showcase their robotic skills in the Robomania 2023 competition held at Tech Dome in Komtar recently.

Co-organised by the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC) and the UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College, the event aimed to allow the students to demonstrate their insights into robot design, programming, and problem-solving.

Tech Dome chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi said the Robomania 2023 was more than just a competition; it was a vibrant platform for showcasing emerging talents in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field.

“The participating students work in teams, navigating through intense rounds, where their robots and products of countless hours of dedication, were put to the test.

“These tasks were designed not only to challenge the robots’ mechanical and technological capabilities, but also to stimulate the students’ problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork,” he said in a press statement.

Khoo said a total of 60 schools, comprising 30 primary and 30 secondary schools, participated in the event on Oct 14.

“A total of 720 students was involved, more than double compared to last year. The primary objective was to promote STEM activities among students,” he said.

Khoo also expressed his gratitude to Globetronics Sdn Bhd and Hotayi Electronic (M) Sdn Bhd for continuing to support this event which started in 2019.
