Runners get to explore heritage gems

SOME 3,500 runners enjoyed a 5km fun run this morning during the ‘I Love Georgetown Run 2019’ event.

The event was organised by 1st Avenue Mall and Occupy Beach Street.

The participants, clad in purple ‘I Love Georgetown Run’ T-shirts, had no qualms taking part in the event on an early Sunday morning.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present to flag off the run at 7am, told the runners that number of people who took part was overwhelming.

He said it was a great achievement and opportunity for the runners to enjoy the street views and historical landmarks in the heritage enclave.

“We are gathered here to find enjoyment and excitement in sports,” he said in his speech before flagging off the run in front of 1st Avenue Mall in Jalan Magazine today.

The route includes Lebuh Tek Soon, Jalan Dr Lim Chwee Leong, Lebuh Pantai, Lebuh Light, Lebuh Farquhar and Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Runners who completed the 5km fun run were given a medal, e-certificate and a door gift each.

There was also a lucky draw session which included a 7D/6N dream holiday to London.
