MORE than 500 participants gathered on a breezy morning on Sunday (Oct 18) to lace up their running shoes and take part in the Penang Marriott’s Road to Give 2026, turning a 5km charity run into a meaningful show of community spirit and compassion.
Organised by Penang Marriott Hotel, the annual initiative goes beyond physical fitness, bringing people together to support the less fortunate while raising funds for charitable causes.
Against the backdrop of a scenic coastal route, participants of all ages assembled at the hotel compound, ready to set off for a morning of exercise, camaraderie and giving back to the community.
The flag-off ceremony was officiated by Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen and Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo Sze Zeng, who cheered on the participants as they embarked on their charitable journey.
In his speech, Gooi commended Penang Marriott Hotel for organising the meaningful initiative, highlighting how the event combined an active lifestyle with a commitment to helping those in need.

“Today, we gather not only for a fun and exciting physical activity, but also to channel our support to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and St Nicholas’ Home,” he said.
He described the event as an important occasion for the community to come together for a good cause, adding that the collective effort demonstrated how a simple activity could make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

With participants eager to get started, Gooi kept his remarks brief before encouraging everyone to make the most of the occasion.

“I hope everyone enjoys the run and the walk, and has a wonderful weekend ahead,” he said.
