Scholarship fund for deserving students

MALAYSIAN youths aged 17 to 25 should not miss the chance to apply for the UWC Scholarship Fund to further their studies in selected courses at the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC).

 

Thanks to the collaboration between three parties – PSDC, Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and UWC Holdings Sdn Bhd – deserving candidates will not only obtain a scholarship fund of up to 100% of the course fee but will also receive a RM300 monthly allowance.

 

The scholarship and allowance are subject to terms and condition.

 

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said priority would be given to applicants from the B40 group or the single-parent family.

 

“The selected courses for the February 2020 intake are the Precision Machining Technology (Level 2 and 3) and the Industrial Automation Technology (Level 2 and 3).

 

“PYDC, UWC and PSDC are committed to equip more youths with skills that are related to the technology of the Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0),” Soon told press conference before taking part in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony in Komtar today.

UWC Berhad Group chief executive officer Datuk Ng Chai Eng said the collaboration was an effort to promote TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) in Penang.

 

“It is our responsibility to help to promote local talents,” he said.

 

PSDC chief operating officer Lim Wei Chen thanked UWC and PYDC for the support and commitment.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the MoU signing could help in the development of youths in Penang to face the new era of IR4.0.

 

“With these technical programmes by PSDC, we will be able to produce more highly-skilled employees to meet the future business needs.

 

“We must take up the challenge and grow our state and nation. We have to invest in our youths and equip them with the latest and relevant skills,” Chow said.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Abdul Razak Jaafar, Penang Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, PYDC director who is also the Batu Kawan MP Kasthuriraani Patto and PYDC general manager Thoy Siew Ping.
