THE state government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC), is now searching for talented Penang youth in the area of creative performances.

PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said the initiative is under the ‘Penang Youth Talent Search’ programme for those aged 15 to 35.

“They could showcase any kind of performing art, such as dancing, singing, stand-up comedian, roleplay, monologue, music performance or any other creative performances.

“If they have a talent to become a host (MC) for an event, this programme is also for them to participate.

“After all, our objective is to explore the potential of talented youth in various fields such as entertainment and art.

“Those who are selected under this programme will have an opportunity to get invited in every state official programme, such as open house programme, state-level Independence Day celebration and many more.

“Of course, they will get paid as well when they perform at any state function or programme.

“Thus, through this platform, they will have an opportunity to showcase their talents or uniqueness and gain valuable experience as well,” Dr Gwee told a media conference at Bagan Jermal Youth Centre in Medan Melur Selatan, Taman Sin Tat, Butterworth, today.

Also present was state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee.

Soon said through such a programme, it shows that the Penang government truly appreciates the young talent in the state.

“The Penang government is taking the development of young talents very seriously.

“This programme also is another step by the state government through PYDC in boosting the young talents whilst reviving the society from the financial difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Dr Gwee said the registration for the programme is open from today until June 26.

“There is no registration fee. The performance can be in a group or individual.
