ECO tourism plays a pivotal role in realising Penang’s vision of becoming a green state, says Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo.

According to Jagdeep, eco-tourism is an integral component of the broader strategy aimed at promoting environmental sustainability.

He said in Penang, two primary sectors, manufacturing and tourism, significantly contribute to the state’s economic development.

Although the tourism industry faced considerable challenges during Covid-19, Jagdeep expressed optimism about its strong recovery.

He underscored the significance of events like the Seberang Perai International Conference on Eco-Tourism and Conversation Efforts (SPICEC) in preserving and promoting eco-tourism products in Penang during his speech at the Light Hotel in Seberang Jaya today.

The conference saw the participation of about 400 attendees, including local and international participants.

Jagdeep acknowledged that climate change is a global concern and mentioned Penang’s goal of planting 500,000 trees as part of its broader environmental efforts.

Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad, who was also present, highlighted Seberang Perai’s potential as an eco-tourism destination boasting a wealth of natural attractions.

“Seberang Perai has a wide range of highly treasured tourist destinations. I hope this conference can help to further develop Seberang Perai eco-tourism products,” he said.

The event was graced by Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
