THE growing enrolment at SJK(T) Ramakrishna has prompted the school to accelerate its efforts in constructing two new classrooms within unused spaces on the second floor of the building.

School Parents and Teachers Association (PIBG) president K. Kumarathiraviam said that there is a pressing need to expedite this project to meet the growing number of students and to enhance the learning environment.

He said despite the construction being at an advanced stage now, more funds are needed to complete other essential components.

A special charity dinner was held at SJK(C) Shang Wu in Air Itam tonight to support the school’s much-needed project.

Hundreds of supporters turned up at the dinner, pledging handsome amounts to assist the school in raising the necessary funds.

Gracing the ceremony earlier was Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who, during his speech, pledged to contribute RM50,000 on behalf of the state government to SJK(T) Ramakrishna.

“As much as our state has been leading the way in so many aspects of the country’s economic drive, we will continue to prioritise the area of education, especially in providing proper and relevant infrastructure for schools in the state.

“Human capital development is a vital factor to ensure we continue to generate and sustain a steady economic growth for our country, and it all starts with our future leaders, the students of today.

“The state government will continue to assist schools in their vision and mission to provide the best for its students, and with many state agencies already spearheading various initiatives, we are certainly on the right track on this matter.

“For instance, agencies such as the Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), Penang Math Platform, Penang STEM, Tech Dome Penang and many others, have consistently been organising activities for schools in Penang.

“As for today, I am thrilled with the progress that SJK(T) Ramakrishna has made over the years. It is now one of the preferred Tamil schools in Penang, and we are happy to assist the school in realising its goal of constructing the two new classrooms,” Chow said in his speech during the charity dinner.

Earlier, Jelutong MP RSN Rayer, who is also the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) chairman, pledged to contribute RM50,000 towards the cause.

Also present during the dinner were state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran and SJK(T) Ramakrishna principal C. Sritharan.
