Smart sensors for designated MBPP parking lots installed

A TOTAL of 12,000 Penang Island City Council (MBPP) parking lots are now equipped with Penang Smart Parking system sensors.

Penang Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Commitee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the installation work was completed on Feb 28.

“Meanwhile, the installation of smart sensors for the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) parking lots is still ongoing.

“Some 3,000 parking lots have been equipped with the sensors so far. The remaining 21,000 parking lots will be equipped with smart sensors in phases until September this year,” Jagdeep told a press conference today.

Jagdeep said the system, operated by HeiTech Padu Berhad, was currently being upgraded to version 2.0.3.

“The system upgrade will be done until March 15. The upgrade is necessary to enhance user experience.

“After the upgrade, it will enable the navigation feature which can help navigate the user to the nearest vacant parking lot,” he said.

Jagdeep added that there were a total of 422 registered eCoupon agents in Penang – 254 on the island and 168 on the mainland.

“The eCoupon can help those who are unfamiliar with the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) app, especially the elderly. We also welcome feedback from the public to improve the PSP system and making it more user-friendly to the senior citizens,” he said.

Jagdeep said that smart initiatives such as the PSP system were instrumental in combating the pandemic.

“It can minimise physical contact, therefore, reduces the risk of infection for the users,” he said.

He also advised the public to continue adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“I have ordered my officers to impose strict enforcement if they found anyone who does not comply to the SOPs,” he said.
