Some decisions are hard to make but they must be beneficial for the people – CM Chow

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow, while officiating the opening of the service centre of Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit on Nov 11, reminded his party comrades to remain steadfast in their duties to the people.

“DAP elected representatives are minded to adopt an open mind at all times while listening to the views of the people who are more familiar with certain local issues. After gaining such views, the challenge is to make the right decision which will achieve the given point,” he said.

“It’s still not too last to make changes after receiving some feedback from the local people on certain issues. This, in fact, should be our approach as the government to be listening to the views of the people. But it is also precisely we are chosen by the people to be the government, at times it is compulsory for us to make difficult decisions with the mandate given to us and these decisions must be beneficial for the people and never to compromise on their well-being,” added the chief minister.

Chow cited two examples of projects in the past which irked the public but only later to be proven to have benefited the people – the Midlands Park project in the early 1990s and the changes to the traffic flow in Pulau Tikus during the time of Lee’s predecessor Yap Soo Huey when she was the Pulau Tikus assemblyman.

Chow also commended the move by Lee to use the previous office of Zairil Khir Johari when the latter was the Bukit Bendera MP. According to the chief minister, it was in accordance with the instruction he had given to all elected DAP representatives to have their service centres occupying the ground floor or at least with lift services in order to facilitate senior citizens or people with special needs to seek assistance at such service centres.

Also present were Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai, Zairil and assemblymen Heng Lee Lee (Berapit), Daniel Gooi (Pengkalan Kota) and Ong Ah Teong (Batu Lancang).
