Some parks in Penang get green light to reopen

SEVERAL recreational and public parks in Penang will be reopened from June 6 onwards, in view of Penang’s success in maintaining its green zone status for almost four weeks.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang City Park (formerly Youth Park), Relau Metropolitan Park, Penang Botanic Gardens, Bukit Jambul hiking area, Penang Hill heritage path at the lower station and the entrance of the jeep path (for pedestrians only) would be open from 7am to 7pm, starting June 6.

“The number of visitors (except for the Relau Metropolitan Park), however, is restricted to 200 people at any one time. Only 50 people are allowed at a time at Relau Metropolitan Park.

“The visitors must register themselves using the PGCare app when they visit the parks,” Chow told the people via Facebook Live today.

He said that permanent forest reserve areas in Teluk Bahang, Cherok Tokun, Bukit Juru, the Air Hitam Dalam Educational Forest and the Penang National Park would remain closed.

Chow said the decision was made during the Penang Security Special Committee (JKKN) today.

He said that state agencies had been ordered to provide standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prepare for a possible opening of more socioeconomic sectors.

On a separate matter, Chow said that durian stall operators in Penang could only provide takeaways from June 4 onwards.
