FORMER Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Gooi Seong Kin has been appointed as the special coordinator to the Chief Minister.

Gooi, 58, had previously been serving the council for nine terms.

“Gooi had been selflessly serving the people in his capacity as a councillor for nine terms.

“I believe that he will do a good job assisting the state government, elected representatives and the local council here in Balik Pulau.

“There were special coordinators being appointed to assist in Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor.

“These coordinators will be able to assist the people in terms of government policies and bring forward any issue faced by the people to the state assemblymen, state government or the relevant agencies,” Chow told a press conference.

Chow said the appointment would also strengthen the Pakatan Harapan team in Balik Pulau, which aimed at serving the people better.

“I would like to thank the Chief Minister for giving me this opportunity to continue serving the rakyat.

“I will do my best to assist the people here in Balik Pulau. This is my kampung (village),” Gooi said.

Pulau Betong assemblyman Mohd Tuah Ismail congratulated Gooi on his appointment.

“We look forward to work together with Gooi to attend to the needs of the people,” he said.

Also present were Chow’s political secretary and Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz and Telok Bahang assemblyman Zolkifly Md Lazim.

Mohd Tuah also welcomed everyone to attend the Balik Pulau Chinese New Year open house at 7pm on Feb 7 at Dataran Muafakat, near the Balik Pulau market complex.
