THE Penang government has introduced a ‘Penang-lang 50% off’ campaign to boost the state’s tourism.

The special campaign for Penangites was introduced to spur the tourism industry which was affected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Penang Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the tagline for the campaign is ‘Cuti-Cuti Penang’.

“There are over 20 places of attraction and participating outlets, including retail outlets and thematic restaurants, that are taking part in this campaign.

“Visitors with a Penang residential address shown on their MyKad or those with a state code of 07, 34, or 35 shown on their MyKad are entitled to the discount.

“The campaign will be held from March 15 to May 15. The campaign is also aimed at allowing Penangites to explore and learn more about the local attractions in the state.

“Those who have visited these attractions can promote them to other visitors,” he told a press conference at the Dark Mansion-3D Glow in the Dark Museum in Kimberley Street today.

The campaign is jointly organised by the PETACH office, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and the Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP).

ATAP chairman Ch’ng Huck Theng said they were working closely with PETACH, PGT and other stakeholders to address the slowdown in the tourism industry.

“We encourage all Penang-lang to take part and support this campaign,” he said.

The participating members of the campaign are The TOP Penang, Tech Dome Penang, Dark Mansion-3D Glow in the Dark Museum, Penang Hop On Hop Off, Penang Bird Park, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm, Tropical Spice Garden, Tropical Fruit Farm, Teddyville Museum, Audi Dream Farm, The Habitat Penang Hill, Monkeycup Penang Hill, The Owl Museum Penang Hill, The Camera Museum Penang Hill, Ghee Hiang, Cheong Kim Chuan Local Products, Harriston Signature, The Chocolate Boutique, Travis Hegel, Craft Batik and David Brown’s Restaurant & Tea Terraces.
