THE Penang government is committed to the development of Chinese schools in Penang.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state has always looked into the needs and welfare of Chinese schools.

“Since 2009, we have been assisting these schools in upgrading their amenities and other repairing works when the need arises.

“We want to make sure the students can have their learning environment in a proper and conducive environment,” he said in his speech during the fundraising dinner for a new building block of SJK (C) Chung Hwa 2 in Butterworth tonight.

Chow said he was delighted to have been invited to attend the event.

“The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of this school has played a pivotal role in initiating the expansion of the school building.

“The layout for the new building has been approved while the groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place at the end of the year.

“The state will refer the school’s application for funds to expand the school to the Chinese and Missionary School Affairs Coordination Committee for further discussion.

“I wish and hope the new school building project of SJK (C) Chung Hwa 2 a success,” he said.

Incumbent Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng, who was also present, was glad about the school’s expansion initiative.

Among those present were Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh, Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy, Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee, and other distinguished guests.
