THE Batu Uban and Bayan Baru service centres will be holding the Harmony Walk 2019 in May to promote a heathy lifestyle, besides raising funds for the needy.

A carnival, called ‘Karnival Harmoni Batu Uban’, will also be held on the same day.

The events are held in association with Persatuan Harapan Madani Pulau Pinang and Persatuan Pergerakkan Belia Wawasan Pulau Pinang.

Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan said the events were organised in a bid to create health awareness among the public.

“Prevention is better than cure when it comes to health matters. Several diseases can be prevented, and it is important that the public are equipped with the knowledge on how to prevent such diseases.

“I have received many appeals from Batu Uban, especially from diabetic and dialysis patients, seeking medical assistance.

“We hope to be able to raise funds for the deserving patients in Batu Uban with the proceeds collected,” Kumaresan told a press conference on March 16.

He welcomed the public support the events.

“There are many exciting programmes lined up. We also have health talks to keep the public updated on health issues.

“Come join in the fun, stay healthy and raise fund for a noble cause,” he said.

Organising chairman Venoth Kumar Vegarazan, from Persatuan Harapan Madani Pulau Pinang, said the association hoped to make the carnival an annual event.

“Free foot screening and a blood donation campaign will be held during the carnival.

“We are now in discussion with the National Kidney Foundation Malaysia. We are hoping that the foundation can send a team to conduct early detection screening during the carnival,” he said.

The Harmony Walk 2019 and ‘Karnival Harmoni Batu Uban’ events will be held from 7am to 6pm on May 4 at the Dewan Terbuka Tapak Pesta Pulau Pinang.
