THE participants of the video competition ‘The Love of Penang 2019’ have every reason to be proud of themselves.

 

Using their talents, they creatively narrated their adventures in Penang via short videos. The theme of the contest was ‘The Element of Penang Culture’.

 

About 50 people took part in the contest which was held from Nov 5 to Dec 10 last year.

 

The contest was organised by LinkBike and Canon Malaysia.

 

Fast Rent Bike (PG) Sdn Bhd director Ken Yeoh said the competition had unleashed the creativity of youths and promoted digital technology.

 

“It is important for us to continue to encourage and support our youths in this digital era,” he said during the prize-giving ceremony at The Prestige Hotel Penang today.

 

Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Commitee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the contest was very relevant to the society.

 

“Videos and images are indispensable aspects of our daily lives.

 

“It has become a trend for the people to showcase interesting activities on the social media platform.

 

“It is important that we continue to embrace technology,” he said.

 

Soon Hin said by promoting the state’s arts, culture and heritage; they could help in stimulating the growth of creative economy.

 

“My newly restructured portfolio – Creative Economy – encompasses the three pillars of arts, culture and heritage.

 

“Creative economy is a rapid growing industry with plenty of potential to progress. I believe that it can expand and transform into an economic powerhouse that can significantly contribute to the state’s economy,” he said.

 

Fast Rent Bike executive manager Gladys Khoo said the winners of the competition took home prizes worth about RM7,000.

 

First prize winner Ng Jia Wei bagged a Canon EOS M100 digital camera, while the runner-up Sherlyn Lim took home the Canon PowerShot SX740 HS digital camera. Meanwhile, second runner-up Kelly Goh won the Canon Selphy photo printer.

 

The four consolation prize winners were Lai Khai Chyun, Loo Mae Sze, Tan Pei Ling and Tan Sze Hang.

 

The prize-giving ceremony ended on a surprise note when the organising team brought out a birthday cake to celebrate Soon Hin’s belated birthday.
