PENANG is one of the strategic places for investment, according to Japanese ambassador to Malaysia Hiroshi Oka.

Oka described the northern state as an attractive investment destination during a 30-minute courtesy call on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in Komtar today.

He cited JLL Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Japan Lifeline Co in North Penang Science Park, for establishing a plant here in Penang last year.

The plant produces cardiovascular medical devices, which are exported to Japan.

“Japan is also considered to be the largest medical supplier to Malaysia.

“Hence, the production facilities at the plant are to be expanded and set to complete in two years.

“I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and the state government for their cooperation and help,” he said during his visit.

Chow told Oka everything was progressing smoothly for JLL Malaysia Sdn Bhd in its expansion plan and the state government was glad that it would further contribute to the state’s economy.

Both of them also exchanged views on the state’s progress and future plans.
