IN the heart of our bustling town and the determination to stay relevant in this highly competitive era, there arose a whisper of concern to make a difference in the lives of the needy.

The Royal Thai Consulate General in Penang conceived the idea of a blood donation drive for the first time in 2019 to enable ordinary people to become heroes in their own right.

This year marks the third edition of the initiative, as the Thai consulate prepares to host the event once again at its premises on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in George Town on April 21 from 9am to 3pm.

The consulate will jointly organise this year’s initiative with the Penang Forward Sports Club (PFSC) and Hui Yin Seh (blood donation group).

It was learned during a media conference earlier that a total of 300 individuals have been targeted to participate in this programme.

Consul-general of Thailand in Penang His Excellency Raschada Jiwalai said that blood donation is not just an act of kindness but a ‘Gift of Life’ that we can give to others.

“As for myself, I have been a regular donor for many years and indeed, a few times a year.

“Therefore, if you are eligible, I would like to encourage each of you to consider becoming a blood donor,” Jiwalai said.

Additionally, he stated that this year’s blood donation drive will commemorate the sixth cycle birthday celebration of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand on July 28.

Meanwhile, Hui Yin Seh deputy chairman Khiah Hock Leong said through such initiatives, they hope to promote friendly interaction between Penang and Thailand and to boost the development of social ties further.

Also present during the media conference was PFSC chairman Lim Choo Hooi.
