Two more AEDs installed

CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today urged all elected representatives and local leaders to make sure that educational programmes related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and usage of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) be continued from time to time.

He emphasised the importance of the AED as the device could help to save lives when any emergency occurs.

He said the AED could help to save the lives of park-goers, should there be any incident of sudden cardiac arrest during exercise.

“Penang was the first state to install AEDs in public recreational parks in 2015.

“To date, a total of 66 AEDs have been installed in selected public areas. These AEDs saved four precious lives.

“Today, two devices will be installed at Taman Bukit Dumbar. Another AED will be handed over to the Civil Defence Emergency Response Team (CDERT) MPKK Sungai Pinang.

“The total allocation is about RM15,000,” he said in his speech before launching the installation of two AEDs at Taman Bukit Dumbar.

Chow also advised everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise frequently.

“We need to take care of our health and go for medical check-up at least once a year.

“By going for a medical check-up, it can help us know our body condition,” he said.

Chow said that stress could also contribute to cardiac arrest or heart attack besides high cholesterol.

Also present were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong and Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa.
