UMNO has named its three candidates for the councillor posts, one designated for the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and two for the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).

They are Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, 54, for MBPP, and Datuk Mohd Noor Ahmad and Datuk Omar Abdul Hamid, both 64, for MBSP.

With their appointments, both city councils have now 24 councillors each. The other councillors had been sworn in on Oct 2, with their term ending on Dec 31, 2024.

State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, who made this announcement at a press conference in Komtar today, said the swearing-in of Abdul Razak would be held at the City Hall on Oct 6 (Friday) while the swearing-in of Mohd Noor and Omar would likely take place on the third week of this month as MBSP mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad is currently on an official trip abroad.

“I hope that these new additions will take this opportunity to work together for the greater good of MBPP and MBSP,” H’ng said.
